Poços de Caldas, MG - The K2 mountain, the second-highest peak in the world, known for being a more challenging climb than Everest, inspired five musicians from Poços de Caldas when choosing a name for their band. Today, after 10 years of hard work and dedication, the group celebrates the best phase of their career. "We drew an analogy with the band's name, which means we are still climbing, aiming to reach the top one day," explained Douglas Maiochi, drummer of K2.

To mark this milestone, the band chose to perform in Poços de Caldas, the city where it all began. The concert will take place today (17th) at 8:30 PM at the Museum Square. The event is free and part of the July Fest program. The band has prepared a setlist featuring songs from the albums MusiK2 and Locomotiva as well as unreleased tracks from their upcoming album, currently being recorded at Mosh Studios in São Paulo. Additionally, copies of the Locomotiva album will be sold for R$5 during the show.

The Journey
"If we were to tell everything we’ve been through in 10 years, one day wouldn’t be enough," joked Pedrinho, the band’s vocalist. "We’ve learned a lot, not just musically, but also about living together," he emphasized.

The band is composed of Douglas Maiochi on drums, Diego Avila on bass, Leonardo Testoni and Lucas Mantovani on guitars, and Pedro Cezar as the vocalist. They are preparing to record their third album next week. With the addition of new guitarist Leonardo Testoni, expectations are higher than ever. "We were already friends, and joining the group is a huge joy," said Testoni.

Since the age of 15, the band members have been working with music. Growing up in the same neighborhood, the band began as a simple pastime, and within six months, they were already participating in local festivals. "One of us had a drum set, another sang in the school choir, and that’s how it started," recalled Diego. Their first performance was at the Rock Festival in Poços in 1997, when they hadn’t yet adopted the name K2. After qualifying in the festival, the group decided to invest in their music. "That’s when we started rehearsing and doing shows with the idea of recording an album," explained Pedrinho.

After five years together, the band moved from Poços to Belo Horizonte, where they lived for two years to record the Locomotiva album. Later, they relocated to São Paulo, where they’ve been living for the past three years.

Although they left home early, they affirm that the big city offered numerous opportunities for shows that significantly boosted their career. K2 has opened for major acts like Pitty, Charlie Brown Jr., and O Rappa, performing for audiences of over 20,000 people. "All of this contributes to the band's musical growth," commented Douglas.

K2’s goal has always been to create original music that conveys something meaningful to listeners. All income from shows and recordings is reinvested in the band. "We try to reflect who we are from Poços in our music. Sometimes we hear songs on the radio that don’t add anything, and K2’s purpose is to make people think," said Pedrinho.

The group has always received family support but acknowledges that the music industry is challenging, which often makes parents uneasy. "It’s not a well-paying profession for beginners, and the market is very tough. Results come slowly," the vocalist explained.

Third Album
The band’s new project is a reflection of their 10-year journey, transformed into music and lyrics. More mature and experienced, the third album will feature songs like A Lei Do Som, Te Espero em São Paulo, and O Meu Menino Voou, tracks already familiar to fans through videos and live recordings on the internet.

"For us, the biggest proof that we’re on the right track is the public’s recognition and how they connect with our message amid so much music imposed by media channels. We’re deeply grateful for those who enjoy our music and listen to what we have to say," concluded Pedrinho.
